Wing Special (as of date published): Tuesday $10 Wings and Fries Basket

The Review:

We here at Milwaukee Wings can be forgetful sometimes, case in point, this review. We checked out Pete’s Pub on Brady St. back in August, it is now (checks calendar) February, oops! Thankfully, we’re pretty good note takers! As such, we’re finally ready to publish this review! Before I even tell you about the wings themselves, this review probably features the best photos of wings I’ve ever taken. Photographing wings in bars is tough as the light is often far less than ideal, and I'm not about to start hauling around lighting rigs when I go for some wings. So long story short, we apologize for the sometimes crummy photos, but hope these make up for it!

We stopped in on a Wednesday night and at that time Pete’s did not offer a wing special, but, this has since changed as they now a Tuesday special where $10 gets you an order of wings and fries, which is a pretty good deal. However, at the time of our review an order of wings was $14 (currently online menu shows the same today). As we’ve recently updated our wing special collection here at Milwaukee Wings, it’s been nice to see many places decreasing prices or putting wing specials back on the menu that had been taken off in recent years. But I always say, great wings don’t need a great special (but it never hurts!). *As always, prices/availability of menu items/prices and/or specials are subject to change at the sole discretion of the bar without the knowledge of Milwaukeewings.com and may not be updated accordingly.*

Pete’s offers a wide array of sauces and dry rubs, every wing eater should find a flavor they enjoy here.  Sauces are: Garli-Parm, Coconut Curry, Jim Beam Bourbon, Caribbean Jerk, Jon’s Hot Honey, House BBQ, Korean BBQ, Buffalo, and R.I.Pete. They also offer the following dry rubs: Peri-Peri, Rico Suave, Lemon Pepper, Gunpowder, and Kryptonite. The current online menu does match up to our visit in August, so no changes there in the past couple of months.

Our wings came out piping hot, extra crispy, super juicy, with an exterior adorned with some grill marks which gave them an extra pop of flavor. As far as the chicken itself goes, these were some seriously great wings. But that is only half the equation, how were the sauces? While we always try to order as many flavors as we can (within reason), the slightly smaller crew at this review limited us to trying out the following flavors:

Caribbean Jerk: A little sweet and a little spicy, this sauce had those warm spicy notes you're looking for in a jerk wing, nicely balancing on that sweet and spicy backdrop. This was a very tasty Caribbean Jerk sauce.

Lemon Pepper: Bright and citrusy with a small bite of black pepper, this was a very tasty dry rub… if you got enough of it. Some of the wings were really good but some lacked a bit if that particular wing didn’t have enough of the rub stuck to it. This is always my biggest issue with dry rubs (anywhere, not just here at Pete’, but the flavor of this one was great when you got enough of it.

Buffalo: This was an interesting one, I wouldn’t call this a traditional Buffalo sauce as it had it’s own unique twist. Tangy and a bit spicy, Pete’s Pub’s Buffalo had a bit of a sweet twist to it, somewhat bright and citrus-like. I liked this sauce and the fun twist, just not a traditional Buffalo sauce in my opinion however.

Hot Honey: Sweet and tangy with a bit of heat, a flavor packed option for anyone looking for a sweeter sauce with a bit of heat.

Korean BBQ: Not as sweet as many Korean BBQ sauces I’ve had, this one was a quite a bit more peppery than I was expecting, good nonetheless however.

The MKE Wings Crew's Favorites:

Frank: Caribbean Jerk

Amber: Caribbean Jerk Ross: Korean BBQ / Hot Honey

Molly: Hot Honey

Conclusion:

With some super tasty chicken and a good variety of tasty sauces, the crew was impressed! We all agreed that Pete's Pub was a Milwaukee Wings Certified Wing Joint! Definitely lots of flavors we didn't get to sample, and I hope I can get back to give them a shot! If you find yourself down on Brady St. and looking for some wings, make sure you give Pete's Pub a shot!
