The Review:
The Drunken Cobra opened it's doors in 2020 as part of the continued growth and resurgence of businesses on North Avenue in Wauwatosa. It's a lively spot that routinely offers karaoke, trivia, bingo, and live music. That's all well and good, but we like to focus on one thing, wings! Will the wings and the Drunken Cobra pass the test?
We stopped in on a Thursday night, which happened to be their $1 wing night. Normally, wings run 12 for $18, so the special is a solid savings if you’re looking to eat a lot of wings without emptying your wallet. As always, prices/availability of menu items/prices and/or specials are subject to change at the sole discretion of the bar without the knowledge of Milwaukeewings.com and may not be updated accordingly.
When the wings hit the table, my first reaction was how big they were. These were some of the largest wings I’ve had in a while. I polished off 11 of them and felt plenty full, so you definitely get some size and value here. Unfortunately, for me that’s where the positives started to taper off. The wings lacked crispiness. The skin was a tad chewy and lacked the crispiness that I love in a great wing. Every bite was soft, which made the chicken itself feel like a bit of a letdown.

So what about the sauces? The Drunken Cobra has a pretty good sauce selection, a little something for everyone: BBQ, Buffalo, Honey Garlic, Honey Buffalo, Garlic Parmesan, Mango Habanero, Sweet Chili, Tangy Carolina Gold, and Gochujang. With our wing crew numbering four on this visit, we were able to try many of the flavors:
Quite the array of flavors, definitely something for everyone. But a variety isn't worth much if the quality isn't there, so here's our thoughts on what we ate:
Buffalo – Buttery, slightly vinegary, but absolutely no heat. Really tame for a buffalo.
Honey Buffalo – Basically the same buffalo base, but with a sweet note added in. Decent, but still lacking that “buffalo punch.”
Garlic Parm – Creamy, garlicky, with a nice Parmesan tang. One of the stronger sauces of the night.
Mango Habanero – Sweet, but no spice at all. Didn’t taste much like mango either, just generically sweet.
Carolina Gold – A mustard-based sauce with a tangy zip. Not spicy, but flavorful.
Gochujang – My personal favorite. Smoky, funky, and bold with that Korean BBQ flair.
Garlic Parm, Carolina Gold, and Gochujang were definitely the stand outs of the night, the rest were underwhelming to say the least.
The MKE Wings Crew's Favorites:

Frank: Gochujang
Molly: Carolina Gold
Ross: Gochujang
Amber: Sweet Chili
Conclusion:
The sauces ranged from solid to disappointing, but the real issue was the chicken itself. Without that crispy bite, everything else fell flat. Because of that, we cannot award the title of Certified Wing Joint. That said, the bar itself looked like a fun hangout spot with lots of events/things to do along with a lively atmosphere. I’d come back for a drink and to try something else on the menu—but not necessarily for the wings.
