Wing Special: $0.75 Wings Tuesday
The Review:
Located on the border of Brookfield and Menomonee Falls, Bobby's Bar opened in 2020, taking over the space formerly occupied by Slim McGinn's. Really tough time to open a bar or restaurant, but they've made it through few turbulent years in the service industry and were open and waiting on a July Tuesday for the Milwaukee Wings crew to roll in to partake in the $0.75 Tuesday wing special. *As always, prices/availability of menu items/prices and/or specials are subject to change at the sole discretion of the bar without the knowledge of Milwaukeewings.com and may not be updated accordingly.*
Bobby's wings are fried or grilled (for an extra $0.50) and normally run $12.95 per order and served in one of six flavors: Nashville Hot, Buffalo, Asian, BBQ, Garlic Parmesan, and Cajun Dry Rub. With a seven-person crew, we were able to try everything we wanted. None of us opted for the grilled wings, and the wings themselves... depends on who you ask. Josh and Jen said their wings were juicy and tasty. The rest of us felt the wings were overcooked, overly crispy and very dry which made them a bit chewy. Additionally, they were a bit inconsistently sauced, some orders and flavors were drenched while others were scantly covered. An inconsistent cook combined with inconsistent saucing really combines to give you an inconsistent wing, some were okay, others were not. So, while that was certainly disappointing, let's talk about the sauces:
Buffalo: Good spice level with a tangy peppery bite. Lacked the buttery component of a great buffalo opting for a bit more pepper forward taste. Not quite what I'd call a traditional Buffalo, but tasty, nonetheless.
Cajun Dry Rub: everyone in the crew reported this one to bit quite bland, not too much taste aside forms a bit of saltiness. This could be a casualty of the under sauced/under seasoned batches.
Asian: This was another batch that was really under sauced. Got a touch of sweetness, but not much else.
BBQ: Super thick and savory without being too sweet, which I enjoyed. Nothing crazy, but a solid barbeque sauce.
Nashville Hot: Any Nashville Hot sauce can vary wildly in heat levels, this one was mostly tame with a heat level comparable to the Buffalo flavor. Good amount of flavor in this Nashville Hot flavor with that chili powder and paprika warmth with just a touch of sweet you want in a Nashville Hot.
Garlic Parmesan: creamy and garlicky with a touch of that savory parmesan cheese, a pretty good garlic parmesan sauce.
The MKE Wings Crew's Favorites:
Frank: Buffalo
Amber: BBQ
Jeremy: BBQ
Josh: Buffalo
Jen: Garlic Parmesan
Jon: Buffalo
Katie: BBQ
Conclusion:
The inconsistent cook and sauce levels on these wings really killed any chance of us loving these wings. Every so often I'd get a wing that wasn't too dry with a good level of sauce and it was pretty good, but unfortunately, those were too uncommon. Bobby's Bar seems like a good spot otherwise, but, I cannot endorse the wings sadly, but man did that Ruben Sandwich look good!
