The Review:

Club Garibaldi seems to be shrouded in a bit of mystery… I had heard some claims that their wings were awesome, but really couldn’t find anything on the internet about them.  So I gathered up a couple of friends and headed down to Bay View to solve the mystery of Club Garibaldi.

  • Chicken & Sauce Quality: Normally these warrant separate ratings, but with the wings at Garibaldi, I really couldn’t really separate the two, here’s why:  First, these wings were huge, I mean huge, probably among the biggest we’ve seen.  Now, like some of my other favorite wings, Points East, these wings spend only a brief time in the fryer before hitting the grill.  I love this cooking method, it really seems to preserve the flavor of the wing and adds a bit of a nice crispy char to the wing.  The odd part, these wings really don’t have much of a sauce, the flavor is more or less grilled right in.  And these best that I can tell, these wings are brined rather than sauced and this gives every little scrap of chicken on the bone flavor, right down to the bone.  The flavor is definitely unique, really not comparable to anything else I’ve had.  Hints of citrus and black pepper are detectable in this unique yet delicious flavor.  And while they’re not hot by any means, there is enough of a heat there for a bit of kick.
  • Sauce Variety: Well, the only have one flavor, and it doesn’t really have a name for what I could tell…so let’s just call them Garibaldi Wings.
  • Sides: Bleu cheese was a bit sweet for my liking, but I’ve had worse.  Also, the wings are so flavorful on their own without much heat, dressing really isn’t necessary on these wings.  Celery is also served with the wings.
  • Value: Normal menus price is pretty awful, $9 for 10 wings or $15 for 20 wings, as much as I love wings, that’s really steep.  However, they do offer a wing special on Wednesday nights where the wings are only $0.40 which is an outstanding value for these awesome wings.

The Final Score:

Chicken Quality: 10
Sauce Quality: 10
Sauce Variety: 2
Sides Quality: 4
Value: 2

Overall 28/33 = 85  *Score corrected on 2012-03-20… previously I scored the sauce variety a 1, which breaks the precedent set by Points East…. if you have only one flavor but it rocks, you still get a 2.  Also, my math was off the first go around!

While they’re definitely NOT buffalo wings by definition, the wings at Club Garibaldi are awesome and definitely unique, providing a nice change of pace for wing eaters.

  1. I can’t believe that you folks have not included the wings at The Rick INN, 9308 w. Capitol Drive in Milwaukee. They have been in business since 1971. Thursday wing special from 5 until 9. = 50 cent jumbo wings.
